The Battle Creek Society of Artists was established in 1979 by the late Georgia Shephard and other artists, for artists of all levels of expertise to have an opportunity to come together for the purpose of encouragement and support without being juried. That remains the club’s goal even now, more than thirty years later.
This current year of 2012/2013, more than 100 artists enjoy active membership in the Society. This includes the privilege of displaying artwork in several places in and around Battle Creek, Michigan.
Bronson Battle Creek Hospital, 300 North Avenue, hosts aproximately sixty art pieces at any given time throughout the year, with art work being changed about every three months to ensure ongoing enjoyment of fresh displays. The public is invited to view the gallery at no charge in the corridor between Java Café and the Auxillary Gift Shop, Monday through Friday between 7:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
The Alano Club of Battle Creek located on Territorial near 20th Street in Lakeview is now hosting about 16 pieces of original art by members. Art is displayed in the entrance, and the corridors leading to conference rooms on both ends of the lovely, new building. You may visit this display during regular business hours and some weekday evenings.
Our newest venue is the CutiePie Café located in Pennfield on Capital Avenue NE. Periodically, members display pieces of art on the walls. Changeovers occur seasonally.
We are pleased to be guests at the Pierce Cedar Creek Institute this fall. BCSA mamber artists are being featured in the main building on these beautiful grounds near Hastings, Michigan. Art will be up for the months of September, October and November, 2012.
From time-to-time, the BCSA has been invited to display members’ work at other area venues, including the Battle Creek Community Foundation offices, the Kalamazoo Nature Center, Bellevue Riverside Café, the Kellogg Company International Headquarters, and the Art Center of Battle Creek. We participate in the twice-annual Downtown BC art walks in May and October.
Interested business owners should contact the Society through e-mail to schedule an interview to inquire about hosting the society members’ art work in the work place at no fee. Send inquiries to BCSA1979@yahoo.com attention: Exhibit Chair.
